Amra/Arma

The Hyborean performance group Amra Arma deals with the transmission of energy, information and emotion from one place and/or time to another. This function is accomplished through the use of human and non-human forces which combine in a fusion of man and machine.

About

Welcome to the Hyborean Age. Herein please find the history and mythos of it’s current day messengers.

Dating back to Pre-Hyborean times, the practice of merging the individual consciousness of large tribes was used by wizards in preparing warrior for battle. In order to call upon powers greater than those known at the time, sorcerers demanded that entire villages gather at places of sacred worship and participate in the prescribed rites. To attune the minds of these mass gatherings, special sounds were created by a nomadic race (Arma) instilled through the will of Isthar with an ability to transmit energy, emotion and ideas from one space and/or time…..

…to another. The mindforce of the large gathering was then channeled through the use of both human and non-human members of Arma, into the souls of selected warriors, endowing them with super-human powers.

This rite would begin with a single member starting the ritual and continue until the controlling minds of the Dirth were united. With the additional fusion of each new mind a veritable avalanche of sound and consciousness would accumulate until the Dirth was prepared.

Upon a prescribed signal, the Dirth was unleashed upon the gathering in a paroxysm rage and solace… physical violence spiritual pacifism… pain and pleasure…after which the awareness of the tribes was said to be in a state of total unity and being.

Sacrifices were not normally in order at these functions but it is known that the strain of the practice oft-times was too great for weaker participants. Therefore. after this unity was forcefully accomplished, a resting period was necessary. This was usually accompanied by one or two droubes playing on drum-like instruments in communication with Isthar in order to gain his permission to continue onward and adding confidence to the unity by traveling in amongst the gathering. If the Armans were permitted to progress, other droubes would join and perform a short tribute for his blessing.

A chanting of Runes was then dictated and increased in a calling for the un-worldly power that the Armans would bring on.

At this time, exactly what happened after the chanting of these Runes, is uncertain. Hyborean folklore leads one to believe anything from wild uncontrolled chaos that would continue for as long as a week, to voodoo-like miracle-working involving wild rhythmic pulsations which have been said to even have brought on thunder-storms. However, since all other knowledge about this lost and forgotten time points to practicality. Historians and “seers” suggest that the consciousness of the entire mass was somehow manipulated by the Armans to obtain pre-determined goals such as learning about other times or places, feeling emotions of other existences uncommon to them, or as aforementioned, giving super-human powers to selected leaders, explorers or warriors.Of course, the larger the gatherings were, the greater power they could possess.

During the height of the Hyborean Age, the Arman sect broke into three separate factions. Ctha Arma found themselves bound only to the arts of war and the Bmai Arman became mystics turning their powers towards a quest for immortality. The third group—Amra Arma—has inexplicably appeared in this century perhaps as a result of an experiment by one or both of their rival factions. Amra Arma professes abilities far in advance of those of either Ctha or Bmai but their purpose is as yet unknown.

It is know, however, that these Armen have been conducting the rites of their ancestors with large gatherings in both Europe and the Americas.
